Nine Layers. One Machine. And Why You Should Own the Pipes.

I don't usually stop on investing threads. Most of them are noise dressed up as signal, and most of the time it's someone peddling or pushing something.
This one was vastly different and quite frankly, made me seriously rethink "economic ecosystems."
Rosanna Prestia mapped the entire future economy in nine layers. From critical minerals at the base to the orbital economy at the top. Space, energy storage, autonomous machines, physical AI, photonics, compute infrastructure, optical materials, RF connectivity, and the minerals that make all of it possible.
Each layer feeds the one above it. The minerals feed the glass. The glass carries the light. The light feeds the compute. The compute powers the intelligence. The intelligence drives the machines. The machines reach for orbit.
That's not nine separate trades. That's one machine, one ecosystem. This logic is something that I need to think about more deeply as a general process.
The line that stopped me:
Logos compete. Layers collect.
It reframes the whole question of where value actually accrues in a technological buildout, or quite frankly any ecosystem from design to construction to application and use. Not where the brand names live, but at the chokepoints below, where everything above is forced to buy from.
It's the same logic as owning the railroad rather than the freight company. Or the copper mine rather than the wire manufacturer. The layer wins because it has no competition — it just has customers. The same logic that made me think about my Jim Chanos post. I don't look at this purely around investment, but more the machination of any chain of delivery.
