Outdoor Furniture That I should Build
April 12, 2026
I am going to build this for my "under deck" deck :)
Woodshop Diaries — Shara's blog — has clear instructions, honest photography, and plans that are actually affordable when you consider what outdoor furniture costs at retail <- sectional sets are very expensive!
The specific post that caught my eye — DIY Modular Outdoor Sectional. It's modular so I can build pieces specific to my space and needs....and...and it's all built from timber. 2x4's and 4x4's makes for very solid furniture that is heavy and built to last. Done right and treated well — sealed, stained, or painted before first use and maintained periodically — it does not rot, it does not wobble, and it does not look cheap after one summer. Oh, and I have dogs. Dogs that like to sleep or lounge outside on a couch. These are not small dogs, so everything that I do is with them in mind. (I'll probably talk about my pack later).
Some of her plans cost money. Not much. And honestly — a good set of plans that prevents three trips back to the lumber yard because you cut something wrong is worth considerably more than what she charges.
This is a bookmark. I will come back to it when the time is right.
